Timber & Joinery

Timber and joinery handling solutions need to control large, awkward panels as well as their weight. Kitchen worktops, cabinet doors, laminated boards and sheet materials may need to move from storage to cutting, finishing and assembly, often with a change of orientation along the way.

LiftRite supplies vacuum and mechanical lifting systems selected around the panel surface, dimensions, weight and workshop layout. The right arrangement supports the load while the operator guides it into position, reducing the need to carry and turn panels manually.

Vacuum lifting for sheet materials

Watch LiftRite vacuum lifting equipment handling a large sheet

The handling task: lifting and repositioning a large sheet while maintaining control of its face and edges.

The solution shown: a suspended vacuum lifting frame with multiple suction pads. The video demonstrates sheet handling with equipment offered for glass, steel or timber applications, subject to the load and surface.

For your joinery workshop: the pad layout must suit the panel dimensions and available gripping area. Surface finish, porosity, protective films and dust all need consideration before selecting a vacuum system. A test with your actual board helps confirm suitability.

Panel turning with 180° tilt

Watch LiftRite vacuum panel lifter with 180-degree tilt

The handling task: changing a panel's orientation between processing or assembly stages.

The project-specific solution: a vacuum lifter with a 180° tilt function, supporting the panel through the turning movement. The footage shows a panel held by the lifting frame as its orientation changes.

For your joinery workshop: allow space for the full turning movement, including the panel corners. Panel balance, pad positions, headroom and the receiving surface must be checked together. The permitted load depends on the selected lifter and operating orientation.

Plan the movement from storage to assembly

  • Lift from a stack: check access to the top and bottom layers, panel separation and the space available for the gripping head.
  • Load a saw, CNC machine or workbench: define the pickup and landing heights, reach over the machine bed, and clearance around guards and extraction equipment.
  • Turn for machining or finishing: specify the starting and finishing orientation and how much clearance is available throughout the turn.
  • Handle finished panels: assess pad materials and contact positions against your surface finish, including any protective film. Agree acceptable marking and handling criteria using a sample.
  • Move pallets and batches: pallet trucks and stacker trucks serve a different role from individual panel lifters and should be selected for the load carrier and transport route.

Will vacuum gripping suit your boards?

Smooth, sealed panels may be suitable for vacuum handling, but appearance alone is not enough to confirm a reliable grip. Unsealed boards, porous materials, textured finishes, cut-outs and dusty surfaces can change the vacuum requirements or limit usable contact areas. Where vacuum gripping is unsuitable, a mechanical attachment or another handling method may be needed.

LiftRite can discuss bespoke lifting attachments and handling systems around your actual material and production sequence. The supporting jib or gantry, available services and equipment capacity must be assessed as part of the complete system.

What we need to specify your solution

  • Panel details: material, minimum and maximum dimensions, thickness, weight, finish and any cut-outs.
  • Movement: pickup and placement positions, required tilt or rotation, lift frequency and travel distance.
  • Workshop layout: headroom, access, machinery, storage racks, operator space and available air or electrical supply.
  • Surface protection: acceptable contact areas, marking limits and any protective coverings.

Discuss your timber and joinery handling project

Send us a photo or short video of the task, your panel dimensions and weight, and the positions you need to move between. A sample of the material or surface finish will help us assess the gripping arrangement.
